Day two of the Caney Valley Tournament wrapped up on Friday in Ramona, and the matchups are set for the championship, third place game and fifth place contests on Saturday. With Riverfield’s withdrawal late from the tournament and no replacement, there will not be a seventh-place games.

On the girls side first, we saw some close games and we saw some blowouts. The nightcap on the girl’s side turned into an instant classic, between Caney Valley, Kansas and Cleveland. Caney Valley carried the lead into halftime and would survive, 60-55 in overtime.

Cleveland trailed by double digits late in the game but came storming back to try and stay alive. This play from Marin Chapman turned into the shot that sent the game to overtime.

The Lady Bullpups survived in the overtime period to advance to the championship game against Dewey at 5:30 p.m, one of two games we will have on KRIG 104.9 on Saturday night.

Cleveland will play Porter for third place at 2:30 p.m.

The nightcap on the boy’s side was much more lopsided. Caney Valley of Kansas ran all over Barnsdall, 78-32. Colt Hightower led the way offensively for the Bullpups, both with the outside shot and electric plays like this one on the inside.

The Bullpups advance to the championship game and will take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m the final game this weekend on KRIG 104.9 FM on Saturday night.

Liberty took out Cleveland in the semifinals earlier in the day, 74-47. It sets up the third-place game between Barnsdall and Cleveland at 4:00 p.m.

In other games across the tournament, the Dewey guys advanced to the fifth-place game with a win over Porter, 66-26. They will rematch the host Caney Valley at 1:00 p.m.

With no seventh-place game, Porter will finish in seventh.
