Lady Huskies Win Morrison Tourney, Guys Beat Pawnee
Ty Loftis
It was day three action of the Morrison Tournament and the Pawhuska Lady Huskies were playing for a championship against the Silo Lady Rebels. They were able to bring that championship home by getting a 47-39 win. The boy's got a win on the final day of the tournament, as they defeated the Pawnee Blackbears by a final tally of 59-44.
Pawhuska got out to an 8-1 lead, but the Lady Rebels responded with a 15-4 run and led it 16-12 midway through the second quarter. Pawhuska did a nice job of responding, though. This three-pointer from Hannah Reynolds was part of an 11-5 run that enabled the Lady Huskies to take a 23-18 halftime lead.
Pawhuska was able to keep Silo at arms length in the second half. The Lady Huskies led throughout. Any time the Lady Rebels attempted to make a run, Pawhuska would be there to answer. This defensive play turned into offense for Pawhuska.
Madison Easley was unable to convert that three point play, but Brooklyn Miles got the rebound and the stick back. With the win, Pawhuska improves to 9-2.
Pawhuska's win over Pawnee gave the Huskies their lone win in the Morrison Tournament. What started out as a defensive slugfest turned out to be the second highest number of points Pawhuska has scored in a game all year.
Trailing 9-8 midway through the second quarter, this sequence jump-started the Husky offense.
Up next for Pawhuska is a road game at Newkirk on Thursday. The Huskies will finish the week with a home game against Woodward. Both of those games can be heard on 99.1 FM KPGM and KPGMTV.com.
