Best of 2024: OKWU Hoops Excel Again
On this Jan. 2, most people are back to reality after the holiday, we have our final Best of 2024 story for local sports.
Oklahoma Wesleyan again was one of the best NAIA men’s basketball programs in the country.
The Eagles won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. The Eagles then won two NAIA Tournament games before falling in the round of 16 to Central Baptist out of Arkansas, 84-79.
OKWU finished the year at 31-3.
Biggest win for Wesleyan came on March 16, as OKWU beat Mid-America Christian, 76-58 at Friends University in Wichita to advance to the NAIA Final Site. This Taylen Miller layup helped propel the Eagles.
Both Miller and Kaleb Stokes were the key seniors that Oklahoma Wesleyan lost to graduation in May.
Those two senior’s departures and injuries to key post players have the Eagles off to a bit more of an uneven start this season.
Head coach Donnie Bostwick talked about last year’s outgoing senior class.
OKWU is 9-4 early on this season.
The Eagles next play at home on Saturday against Bethany in a couple of games we will have on the radio.
