Pokes Somehow Make it to Arlington

College football’s regular season is over, and it’s onto conference championship Saturday across the country this weekend.

Oklahoma State qualified for the Big 12 Championship Game ia a wacky and gritty win over BYU on Saturday evening in Stillwater.

OK-State topped the Cougars 40-34 in double-overtime to punch its ticket to Arlington for the second time in the past three years.

Pokes made it tough on themselves. They trailed 24-6 at halftime following a pick-six thrown by senior QB Alan Bowman and multiple other miscues in the first 30-minutes.

BYU forced OT on a last-second field goal in regulation thanks to a missed Oklahoma State PAT with less than a minute left.

But it was sophomore running back Ollie Gordon who again carried the load, including this touchdown in the second overtime.

With OSU up six in the second OT, BYU was stripped of the ball and fumbled to hand the Cowboys the win.

Here is the final call from Dave Hunizker as heard on KWON.

Oklahoma State and Texas from Arlington for the Big 12 title at 11:00 on Saturday morning. A game we will carry on KWON.

The OK-State win keeps Oklahoma out of the Big 12 Championship game for the third straight season. OU would have qualified and had a Red River rematch had BYU hung on. Sooners will still have a solid chance at a New Year’s Six Bowl, with those announcements coming on Sunday.

This is the seventh time in the past 11 seasons that both OU and Oklahoma State finished the year in the top-3 of the Big 12’s final standings.
