The big news statewide this week – Oklahoma woke up in a new conference.

It was nearly three years in the making, but OU is officially in the SEC this morning.

The Sooners and their rival Texas Longhorns both accepted invitations to the nation’s premiere football conference in the summer of 2021.

In Oklahoma’s case particularly it has been a period of change, with Brent Venables also taking the reigns of the football program after Lincoln Riley left for USC after the 2021 season.

There will be celebrations in Norman all day today, and all week long. We will have more on the Sooner’s new conference throughout the week.

For the Big 12, and by extension Oklahoma State, the conference loses two of its biggest brands, but does gain a bit of stability today with the addition of four new members.

The destruction of the PAC-12 left Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State headed to the Big 12. Conference Those schools will all be a part of the Big 12 this fall, joining the 12 that were already there.

Since the announcement that OU and Texas were leaving, the Big 12 has added BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF and now the four schools above to try to solidify the eight original members who stayed put.

They all join Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.
