High school football is officially back, and at Oologah-Talala the Mustangs are embracing the August heat.

Head Coach Sam Noble has his team practicing at 2:00 in the afternoon this week, using the hot conditions to help get his players acclimated before the season begins.

Oologah will feature a young roster this fall, with plenty of freshmen and sophomores expected to contribute alongside a solid group of senior leaders.

One of the biggest storylines in camp is at quarterback. Returning sophomore Brock Lustig and freshman Easton Gilmore have battled throughout the summer, and Noble says he plans to give both players every opportunity to win the job before making a final decision.

The Mustangs are also going back to a traditional Week 1 start this season after opening in Week 0 in recent years. Oologah will use scrimmages against Jay and Verdigris to get its young roster ready before opening the regular season against Hilldale.
