Lions Searching for Spark as Season Opens

The South Coffeyville Lions boys basketball team has opened the 2025–26 season with a challenging slate as they continue to search for momentum. Their first game against Aspire HomeSchool proved difficult, with the Lions falling 67–27 in a decisive season opener. It was a tough way to begin, but also a starting point, a chance to identify where growth is needed as the season moves forward.

One night later, the Lions showed signs of progress, battling Foyil to a tight 40–37 contest. Though South Coffeyville came up short, the three-point loss marked a major step from the opener and demonstrated that this group is capable of competing closely, even under quick turnaround conditions. That performance hinted at potential, a flash of what this team could become once things start to click.

December brought more adversity, including a 59–42 loss to Copan and a road setback at Wesleyan Christian. While the scoreboard hasn’t fallen in their favor yet, the pieces are there for improvement. With time, toughness, and continued growth, South Coffeyville has the opportunity to reshape the season. The work ahead is clear, but so is the possibility. The Lions still have plenty of basketball left, and if they build from their glimpses of progress, this could be the start of a turnaround.
