Copan Heads to Thackerville for Playoffs
None of our local schools snapped a longer football playoff drought than the Copan Hornets.
Copan got into the postseason for the first time since 2009 following their 72-40 win over Oaks at home this past week. Many underclassmen and backups were able to play down the stretch.
Last season a big group of freshmen won four games to finish one game shy of the playoffs. This year the Hornets went 5-5 and the now-sophomores got in.
Head coach Marshall Foreman says it’s great to see his clubs’ goals come to fruition.
In the 72-point output a lot of Hornets played well last week. Weston O’Rourke had 10 carries for 126 yards and four touchdowns, including a kick return for a score. Shooter Brewington had a touchdown grab and 35 tackles on defense. Kane Foreman also threw for two scores.
Copan’s first-round opponent in the Class C bracket will be Thackerville. The Hornets will make the 4.5 hour trip on Thursday and spend the night prior to the game. Thackerville is 8-2 on the year.
Foreman talks about how he sees the matchup.
We will have more on Copan at Thackerville later this week.
