One week of high school football practice is in the books, as most clubs across our area will now be focused on scrimmages this weekend.

At Bartlesville High, the Bruins scrimmage Bishop Kelley in Tulsa on Thursday evening. It will include multiple levels of football, with the varsity guys going last. BHS held its Meet the Bruins intersquad scrimmage on Friday night at Custer Stadium with several standouts.

Bartlesville had good play from most of its early starters, including a long touchdown run from senior running back Sutton Williams and some nice grabs from wide out Harrison Ketchum.

Head coach Harry Wright details what he saw from his team’s first day in pads.

More than half of Bartlesville’s varsity roster is still sophomores and freshman, as a youth movement continues. It is a large and talented now-sophomore class that many in the community have had their eyes on for years.

Wright says all those younger guys are starting to grow up.

We will have more on Bartlesville’s upcoming scrimmage against Bishop Kelley later this week.

The Bruins open their season against Newcastle on Friday, Aug. 29 at Custer Stadium.
