Let’s stick with small school hoops, as we look at this year’s version of Copan boys’ basketball. The Hornets are 4-2 into the holiday break.

Copan got a win over Bluejacket right before the break to get to two games above .500. Copan ‘s two losses are to Cedar-Vale Dexter in the semis of the Copan Shootout, then a 60-30 to Wesleyan Christian School.

Offense is still a work in progress early this season, like it is for many area teams. Copan is averaging about 45 points per game. The Hornets only scored 27 points in the Cedar-Vale Dexter loss. Copan again in a slog a couple days later against Barnsdall but rebounded to beat the Panthers by one, 48-47.

Head coach Kolton Stacey says he is happy to see some progression.

Copan will restart its season on Jan. 7 at South Coffeyville.
