We continue our look back at the year that was in 2024, as we go over the best local sports stories from the past calendar year – Today we’ll stay in Bartlesville once again for a look back at a historic season for Wesleyan Christian School boys’ basketball.

The Mustangs had their first-ever appearance in an Area Tournament this past February. WCS was one win shy of making it to state but fell in the Area Consolation finals to Leedey.

The loss was a tough one for the Mustangs, who had a senior laden group fall just shy of their season long goal.

Head coach Steven Cook’s club fell in the Class B Regional finals to Frontier, 60-47. Despite that loss and thanks to double-elimination, WCS went on to win two games in Area.

Cooks talked about the feat of making it to a round of the playoffs that Mustang basketball had not been to before.

Wesleyan Christian notched wins over Lomega and Balko before the loss to Leedey ended the Mustang’s season.

Just like 2023 WCS football, 2024 Mustang basketball was loaded with seniors who graduated this past May. Cooks talks about what they have meant to WCS hoops.

WCS went 24-5 this past season. The Mustangs have started off the 2024-25 season hot, as well.

Even without those graduating seniors, Wesleyan Christian stands at 8-0 about a third of the way through this winter’s season.
