A Dewey man was seen in court on Monday afternoon in relation to the deaths of Kiana Johnson and Shannon Suter in June 2023. Skyler Oliver is being charged with two felony counts of first-degree manslaughter and furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor.

According to an affidavit, Oliver was driving himself and four others down County road 4020 when a deer allegedly ran into the road, forcing the vehicle to swerve. The vehicle then departed the road and rolled multiple times before striking two separate pipe fences and coming to a stop.

A mostly empty alcoholic beverage was discovered near the truck on arrival by an officer. Oliver originally said he couldn’t remember who was driving but one of the passengers confirmed it was Oliver. His toxicology report was done three hours after the accident, and came back showing no alcohol or drugs were in his system.

Oliver was the only individual in the vehicle over the age of 21. One of the surviving passengers said they had been drinking prior to the crash. Oliver appeared in person after making his $75,000 bond. His next court date is set for June 21st.
