Bartlesville High School won its 42nd swim state championship and ended a five-year drought in state titles over the weekend.

The BHS girls beat Jenks 405.5-300 to take home the title. The Bruin guys were fantastic also, finishing second in the state behind Jenks. Both events took place at the Jenks Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday.

The Bruin girls were able to take home gold medals in four individual events and three relays, which led to the title.

Head coach Chad Englehart was clear in December that he thought the girls’ team had a chance to do something special.

Bartlesville got two individual state records in the process. Addison Howze broke the record for 100 backstroke with a time of 54.76 seconds. Anna Young, a freshman, broke the state record in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.58.

Young also won the 500-free. Howze was able to win the 200-IM, as well.

Griffin Craig won the 100-backstroke on the guy’s side, as Jenks beat Bartlesville 419-305.
