Both Pawhuska Teams Suffer Losses on Final Day of Tourney
It was a difficult night for both Pawhuska basketball teams on Saturday night, with the Lady Huskies falling in the championship game of the Husky Invitational and the Huskies losing in the third place game. Alva beat Pawhuska in both games.
On the girl's side, it was Alva getting the best of Pawhuska, 56-37. For those who were unable to watch, the game was much closer than that final score indicates, though. A half court shot by Hannah Reynolds at the halftime buzzer gave Alva a 29-19 lead at the break and this shot to start the second half cut into that deficit.
Foul trouble was an issue for the Lady Huskies, as Fallon Bowman eventually fouled out with 13 points on the night. Alva led by 14 going into the fourth quarter before going on to get the 19-point win.
Alva beat Pawhuska 50-34 on the guy's side to win the third place crown, but a similar story in the sense that the game was much closer than the final score indicated.
Pawhuska got off to a rough start offensively, as Alva scored the first 10 points of the game. This bucket in the early stages of the second quarter helped the Huskies get in a bit of a groove though.
Alva took a 15-11 lead into halftime and going into the third quarter, it was Alva that went on a 19-10 run to put the game out of reach heading into the final quarter.
Pawhuska's next game is currently scheduled for this Friday against Blackwell. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and coverage can be heard on Sportstalk KPGM FM 99.1 and streaming on KPGMTV.com.
