Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball made a cold trip to North Newton, Kansas for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference double-header at Bethel on Saturday evening.

The women lost, but men won, as both teams have reached the midway point of the conference season.

On the women’s side, Bethel pulled away in the second quarter for a 94-76 victory. OKWU hung with the Threshers in the first quarter, but the Eagles were outscored 22-9 in the second. Wesleyan didn’t get within single digits again.

OKWU women drop to 4-12 overall, 2-8 in KCAC play.

On the men’s side things were not easy, but the Eagles held on for a 78-66 victory over Bethel. OKWU led by nine at halftime, that was quickly cut to three to begin the second half. Despite the Thresher run, the Eagles led by seven or more most of the final 15 minutes.

This Kaleb Stokes three-pointer helped stop a Bethel run.

Those were three of five points on the night for Stokes. DJ Talton scored 18. Dylan Phillip had 15, but the high mark went again to Jaden Lietzke.

The Owasso-native scored a game-high 24 points including this dunk that put the game away.

Eagle men keep pace at the top of the KCAC at 9-1 in the conference, 15-1 overall.
