Treadway Passes at 96
The Bartlesville Gymnastics Club announced the passing of one of Bartlesville’s first pioneers in sports.
Kenneth Way Treadway passed away a week ago in Kansas.
According to the post, Treadway was instrumental in establishing Bartlesville as a major hub for youth sports.
Treadway was Director of Athletics for Phillips 66 Petroleum and was a key figure in creating both the Phillips 66 Splash Club and the Bartlesville Gymnastics Club.
According to the post, Treadway successfully bid to bring the 1968 Senior National AAU Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics Championships to Bartlesville. The landmark event was held at the Adams Building Gymnasium and broadcast nationally on ABC’s Wide World of Sports.
Treadway is also credited as a founding father for the Phillips 66 Splash Club, which continues to this day and has made Bartlesville a hub for swimming in the region.
Treadway was also a International Swimming Hall of Famer for his work in the sport.
He was 96.
