The Oklahoma City Thunder made its first big move of the offseason on Thursday.

According to media reports, OKC moved guard Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for defensive specialist Alex Caruso.

Giddey was in the final year of his contract with the Thunder and struggled at times in OKC’s playoff series with the Dallas Mavericks. Caruso was one of the most sought-after role players in the NBA this offseason. He shot 41-percent on threes last year and was fourth in the NBA in steals.

NBA insider for ESPN Brian Windhorst gives his thoughts on the trade.

The 30-year-old Caruso is also entering the final year of his contract, according to reports Oklahoma City would like Caruso to sign an extension to be a part of the Thunder’s core moving forward.

Giddey was a first-round draft pick in 2021, with the Thunder taking him No. 6 overall out of Australia.

For now, the Oklahoma City still has plenty of available cap space and many draft picks to try to acquire additional help in the post.

Oklahoma City was the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference last season, losing to Dallas in the Western Conference semifinals in six games.
