South Coffeyville Prepares for First-Round Playoff Battle Against Sasakwa

The South Coffeyville Lions are gearing up for their first-round playoff matchup Friday night against the Sasakwa Vikings in Sasakwa, and head coach Rich Giesen says his team is healthy, focused, and ready to compete.
Coming off the regular season finale, Giesen said last week’s emphasis was all about improvement and preparation rather than standings. “We just focused on playing better to get ready for the playoff game,” he said. “Sasakwa’s a very good football team—they’re 9-1, throw the ball well, run the ball well—so we’re just trying to get ready to play some good defense.”
Thanks to film-sharing through Hudl, both teams have been able to study each other’s recent games and prepare accordingly. “We exchanged our last two films with them, so we’ve been able to see what they’re doing and game plan from there,” Giesen explained.
Perhaps the biggest advantage for the Lions heading into the postseason is their clean bill of health. “Everybody’s healthy, which is always a blessing this late in the season,” Giesen said. “We’ve still got 19 players all playing very well—no injuries, no sicknesses—so everything’s really looking good.”
The Lions will kick off their playoff run Friday at 7 p.m. in Sasakwa. The winner will move on to face either Tyrone or Tipton in the next round.
