Sooners Extend Venables
The University of Oklahoma continues to prepare for the move to the SEC in exactly one week, as the Sooners extended their head football coach’s contract.
OU skipper Brent Venables got two years added to his contract along with a raise of $400,000.
Prior to the raise and extension, Venables would have been the ninth highest-paid coach in the SEC.
Following a board of regents meeting last week, OU athletic director Joe Castiglione talked about the upcoming conference change and a bit about Venables new contract.
Venabels is 16-10 in his two seasons in Norman, including an 0-2 record in bowl games.
OU started out last year at 7-0 with a win over Texas before falling at Kansas and Oklahoma State. The two losses kept the Sooners out of the Big 12 title game for the third straight year.
However, the Sooners still won 10 games before their Alamo Bowl loss, following their first losing season since 1998 in Venable’s first year at the helm in 2022.
