Oologah Bounces Back with Dominant Win, Eyes Senior Night Showdown Against Skiatook

After a tough two-game skid, the Oologah Mustangs found their rhythm again Friday night with an explosive 56–37 victory over the Catoosa. Head Coach Sam Noble credited his team’s renewed energy and the breakout performance of star playmaker Aiden Gaines for turning things around.

“I feel like we just came out with a different energy,” Noble said on Monday’s Coach’s Corner. “We still didn’t play as clean as I’d like, but we got the ball in our playmakers’ hands.” Gaines certainly made the most of those touches, hauling in seven receptions for 252 yards and three touchdowns, adding two rushing scores and a punt return for another. “Creating explosive plays and limiting theirs was a big key for us,” Noble added.

Despite Catoosa’s 37 points on the board, Noble clarified that most came late in the game against Oologah’s second-string defense. “They only scored twice on our ones,” he said. “Getting our younger guys quality playing time helps build for the future.”

Now sitting at 2–2 in district play, the Mustangs are turning their attention to their final home game of the season, Senior Night, against Skiatook. The two teams have mirrored results in district matchups, making this week’s contest a pivotal one. “Really, we just have to control the tempo and limit their big plays,” Noble explained. “Skiatook is better than they’ve been in the past. They can score points, so we’ve got to play disciplined football and keep our eyes in the right place on defense.”

The Mustangs’ Senior Night game is currently scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., though weather forecasts could force a shift to Thursday evening. Noble said a final decision will likely come by Tuesday. “We’ll do what’s best for our kids to give them the best Senior Night possible,” he said. “It’s Oklahoma, the weather’s unpredictable, but we’ll be ready no matter what.”

Oologah looks to close out their home slate with a second straight win and send their seniors off in style.
