OKWU Hoops Sweeps Tabor in Thrillers

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball won two entertaining games against Tabor College on Monday night.
 
The Lady Eagles beat the Bluejays, 59-56, the men won yet another thriller, 78-76.
 
In the women's game, Tabor opened the game on a 13-5 run before OKWU responded. After tying the game at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles took a two-point lead into the second half. In a defensive game, it was 39-37 Lady Eagles after three quarters.
 
Both offenses came to life in the fourth quarter. Sophia Regalado led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 15 points, including this bucket to put OKWU up six in the fourth.
 
The Lady Eagles outscored Tabor in the fourth quarter, 20-19, to beat Tabor for the first time since 2023. The Lady Eagles are 7-13 with the win and 3-11 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
 
On the men's side, OKWU had to play catch-up early. The Bluejays grew a lead as large as 12 twice in the first half before the Eagles went on a run to get back in the game. Tabor led at the half, 38-34, after a 6-0 OKWU run cut it to 4.
 
The Eagles came to life offensively in the second half with 44 points. OKWU grew as large as a 10-point lead in the second half before Tabor responded with a 20-7 run to take the lead in the final three minutes. Yashi McKenzie had the response, leading a 6-0 run to take the lead back for good.
 
The win completes the season sweep for the Eagles over Tabor after beating the Bluejays on the road in November. The OKWU men are 18-2 overall and 13-1 in the KCAC.
 
Both OKWU clubs return on Wednesday for the second of a three-game homestand against Avila University. The Lady Eagles will get the evening started at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow around 7:30 p.m.
