OKWU Basketball Splits With Evangel

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball finished out their final road trip on Thursday night with a split against Evangel. The women’s team lost, 83-74, the men won once again, 84-51.
The Lady Eagles found themselves in another back-and-forth battle. Some big offense was the key early. OKWU trailed by four at halftime, 42-38. Haley Meely sunk this half-court buzzer beater at the half to make it a four point game.
Meely led the way offensively with 19 points. She was one of four Lady Eagles in double figures.
The Lady Eagles got into a deep hole late in the fourth quarter and couldn’t dig out of it in the end, free throws down the stretch for Evangel proved to be the difference.
OKWU with the loss drops to 12-15 and 9-12 in conference play.
The Eagle men set themselves up with a chance to clinch the KCAC regular season championship with another dominant performance. They opened the game up on a 13-2 run and didn’t look back.
OKWU led by 23 at the half, 47-24. They shot 48% from the field with three players in double figures. Jaden Lietzke led the way with 22 points.
Head coach Donnie Bostwick shared his thoughts after the game.
The Eagles with the win improve to 21-6 and 18-3 in conference play. They have won 12 in a row.
Both OKWU clubs wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday afternoon against McPherson College for senior night. The women will get the day started at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
