Nowata homecoming rally falls short against Barnsdall
In Nowata the Ironmen nearly erased a 32-6 halftime deficit to area opponent Barnsdall, but the Panthers used big plays to hold off Nowata 44-34. Barnsdall raced out to a 8-0 lead before Nowata answered with the first of two Davion Downing rushing touchdowns to make it 8-6 Panthers after the first quarter. Barnsdall however dominated the 2nd quarter, thanks to two touchdowns by senior James Johnson.
Johnson would add an interception for touchdown moments later to help Barnsdall seize control at halftime 32-6. Nowata in the 2nd half proved that no lead is safe as they outscored Barnsdall 26-12 to get back into the game.
Jose Wilson started out the scoring with a hard nosed score on the ground for Nowata and Davion Downing added this touchdown, to cut the Barnsdall lead.
The 2nd half was both teams trading touchdowns, and Nowata kept adding on along with getting an onside kick recovery late in the 4th quarter, but Barnsdall was able make just enough plays to hold on in the win. Barnsdall improved to 2-2 while Nowata fell to 0-4.
