Nowata Gets Split Decision in Thursday Regional Matchups

The Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen did battle on Thursday afternoon and night with different outcomes. For the Lady Ironmen, they were in a do-or-die scenario but grabbed a win over Haworth, 45-36. Lady Ironmen now advance to Friday afternoon elimination game at 1 pm against the Afton Lady Eagles.

On the guys side, they dug a 28-17 halftime hole that they would never fully crawl back out from as they fall 61-46 to the Howe Lions. Nowata led at the end of the first period 12-11 but that would be their last lead of the game.

Nowata trailed by 15-points in the third before the Ironmen went on a huge 18-6 run to get all the way back into the game as they trailed by just three. Kaleb Bashford was a huge reason for that as he scored 10 of his 23-points in the third quarter, including this huge three-pointer that would turn into a four-point play.

Nowata would make it a 36-44 game at the end of the third, but the Lions would go on a run to close out the Ironmen and grab the 15-point win.

Bashford's game high of 23-points now puts him at 998 career points with at least one game left in his career. He needs just two-points to hit the 1,000 point mark.

Ironmen fall to 11-14 and now face elimination Friday night in Colcord, also against the Afton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. A win would put them in a 2A Regional title game Saturday afternoon, and a loss would bring their season to a close.

We will have the Ironmen and the Eagles for you on KRIG 104.9 FM and KRIGTV.com with pre-game coverage starting at 7:15.
