Nowata Basketball Drops Season Opener at Fairland

The Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen both fell to 0-1 after losses to Fairland on Tuesday in their season opener. On the girls side, it was a back-and-forth game with the Lady Ironmen leading at the half, but the Lady Owls would use a run in the third quarter to take a lead they never squandered. Lady Owls beat the Lady Ironmen, 53-48.

On the guys side, they fell behind in the second quarter and were never able to crawl all the way back as they lost 62-50. The men trailed 12-10 after the first quarter but were outscored 20-6 in the second to make it 32-16 at the half.

Kaleb Bashford exploded for 13 of his 17 points in the second half as he led the way for the Ironmen, with Spencer Bullen right behind him with eight second half points to give him 12 on the night.

Ironmen though could never get back to single-digits as they would drop their season opener in large part of Carson Schertz of the Owls who poured in a game-high 24-points.

Here is Derick Ott’s thoughts on the loss in his first game as Head Coach for the Ironmen.

Both Nowata squads are back at it again on Friday, as they make the short trip down HWY 60 to face the Bulldoggers of Dewey. We’ll have radio coverage on KRIG 104.9 FM and video coverage on KRIGTV.com
