Nowata and Caney Valley (OK) Split Playoff Opener

Nowata and Caney Valley (OK) split their district championship doubleheader to open the postseason on Thursday night in Ramona.
 
The Lady Trojans rolled in the girl's game, 67-37, the Ironmen won a back-and-forth boy's game, 58-52.
 
In the boy's game, neither team scored for the first four minutes of game time. After a low-scoring first quarter, both offenses got hot. The Trojans made a handful of three-pointers in the second quarter to take control in the first half.
 
This three-pointer from Zac Longan put the Trojans up 11 in the second quarter.
 
The Trojans went into the break up four, 27-23.
 
Nowata had the answer offensively in the third quarter, striking for 22 points in the frame to take the lead. Caney Valley threatened the deficit but could not jump in front.
 
This bucket through contact from Adrian O'Dell helped seal it for Nowata.
 
With the win, the Ironmen advance to the winner's bracket of regionals and take on Fairland. That ballgame will be played in Pawhuska on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans will face elimination against Pawhuska next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Pawhuska.
 
On the girl's side, the Lady Trojans will take on Pawhuska next Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the winner's bracket of regionals. The Lady Ironmen will face elimination next Thursday against Fairland at 6 p.m.
