Indians Win Dramatic State Tourney Opener

The Doenges Toyota Indians won their first game of the state legion tournament in walkoff fashion on Thursday afternoon.
The Indians beat McLoud in Ada, 9-8.
In a wild game, Bartlesville trailed after the top of the first, 2-0. The Indians responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game.
Both offenses stayed quiet until the third inning when the Indians took their first lead. This single by Joel Perez put Bartlesville in front.
McLoud came to life in the sixth inning to take the lead back. They struck for three runs in the top of the sixth to lead, 5-3. Bartlesville responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead.
Right after a Garrison double tied the game, this bunt single by Eddie Rice gave the Indians the lead back.
Things would not be that easy for the Indians, McLoud scored three more runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. Once again, Bartlesville had an answer.
A leadoff triple by Grant Goldman put the Indians in position. Bryce Leulf pinch ran for Goldman and scored on a ground ball from Rhett Leu. After a walk and a crucial error, Parker Garrison was intentionally walked with two outs to load the bases.
On the mound, Zane Stricklin struck out 10 over six innings. He allowed four earned runs with six total runs allowed.
The win sends the Indians into the winners bracket of the state tournament. They will play the winner of Marietta and the Ada Braves on Friday night at 7:15 p.m.

In the AA state tournament, the Bartlesville Braves lost to Fort Gibson, 6-4. They will play an elimination game at 11 a.m.
