Summer baseball is off to a hot start in Bartlesville, as the Doenges Ford Indians have begun the year at 4-0. The Tribe run-ruled two of the wins and cruised to one of their best starts in recent memory over the Memorial Day Weekend opening action.

The Indians swept two double-headers over Independence, Kansas to kick off the season. It was 7-0 and 12-2 on Saturday. The Tribe earned a 10-8 then 10-0 win on Sunday over the Cardinals from Southeast Kansas.

There were contributions up and down the lineup.

On Sunday it was another deadly combination of solid defense, good pitching and opportunistic hitting. A new Indian in Bruin sophomore Bryce Luelf had a big two-RBI single that ended up being the difference in game one.

Luelf also continued solid play at third base, including this double-play that ended a Cardinal threat.

Indians may have had their best day at the plate in game two on Sunday. Bartlesville pounded out 10 runs on eight hits. All put two players had knocks in the game, including two more from Kaleb Bashford.

Hunter Shea, who got the game one pitching victory, got a big first-hit-of-the-summer in game two to drive in two runs.

Trey Bennett earned the win on the mound in the second game with five-innings of shutout baseball. He struck out five and walked none. Luke Fox, Brenden Asher and Bashford got hits in all four games of the weekend.

Bartlesville is only 10 wins away from its season-long win total from last year.

B’Ville is now off until it plays at least four games over three days in the Katzer Tournament in Fort Smith, Arkansas beginning on Friday evening.
