Dewey Track and Field Shines at Regionals

Dewey track and field put together excellent results at their 3A regional in Chisholm on Saturday.
 
Between the boys' and girls' teams, Dewey won eight separate regional championships. Camrin Jones, a senior on the girls' side, won three regional golds in the long jump, high jump and 300-meter hurdles. Mackenzie Hedges finished second behind Jones in the high jump.
 
Other regional champions on the girls side included Kyla Overton in discus and Londyn Bond in shot put with Overton in second. Lacey Nichols finished third in discus.
 
On the boys' side, Dewey took home three regional championships on the track. Kavery Weathers won the 300-meter hurdles with Keidon Holt in second place, Holt finished first with Weathers in second in the 110-meter hurdles, and Tra Hicks took gold in the 400-meter dash. Caydn Artherton finished second behind Hicks with Wyatt Templeton in fifth.
 
With loaded talent in multiple aspects, head coach Daniel Close talks about the athletes pushing each other.
 
The 3A state meet will be May 8 and 9 in Catoosa.
