Dewey Hoops Outlasts WCS

Dewey basketball won a defensive battle over Wesleyan Christian School on Tuesday night.


The Bulldoggers outlasted the Mustangs, 42-32.


Wesleyan Christian controlled the pace for the majority of the first half before Dewey went on a run. Neither side held a lead in double-digits in the first two quarters.

 

The game saw its first three-pointer in the second quarter from Drayven Carter, who stretched an early WCS lead to seven.


Dewey responded with a 7-0 run to take a one point lead, and maintain a 16-15 lead at halftime.


The Doggers went on another big run to start the fourth quarter after an evenly played third. Dewey stretched the lead to 10 for the first time thanks to this dunk from Tra Hicks.


Gage Hawkins also made an impact off the bench with two important three-pointers midway through the second half.


The win makes it four in a row for Dewey, they improve to 9-1. Wesleyan falls to 7-3.


In the girls game, Dewey took control from the start and rolled past the Lady Mustangs, 65-21. The Lady Bulldoggers are 5-5, the WCS girls drop to 7-3.


The Bulldoggers return on Thursday against Sequoyah (Claremore) in the opening round of the Oologah Tournament. Tip-off at 8:30 p.m. in a game that can be heard on 104.9 - KRIG.


The Mustangs open the Regent Tournament on Thursday.
