Dewey baseball is headed back to the State Tournament for the first time in 2012 years.

The Bulldoggers won back-to-back games at Stilger while facing elimination in the 3A postseason, which moves Dewey on to the next round.

Bulldoggers topped Stigler on Friday, 8-4.

The game was tied at 1 until the bottom of the third, when Dewey scored two runs on a Layne Gastel home run. The homer would give the Bulldoggers the lead for good.

Dewey would lead 6-1 and 8-3 before finally winning by four. Gastel also excelled on the mound, as he went the final three innings. Lathe Griggs threw the first four frames and allowed just the one run in the first inning.

Both the District starters for Dewey had pitched early in games on Thursday and rebounded to combine for the winner-take-all victory.

3A State will May 14, 15 and 16. That is this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

More information on locations and matchups for the event will come out officially on Monday when the bracket is released by the OSSAA.
