Cougars Earn First Win of the Season in Hard-Fought Battle Against Trojans
In a matchup between two teams searching for their first victory of the year, the Oklahoma Union Cougars came out on top Friday night with a 12-8 win over the Caney Valley Trojans. Both teams entered the contest 0-6, and it showed early as defense dominated much of the game.
After a scoreless first half, Oklahoma Union finally broke through late in the third quarter with a touchdown, though a failed two-point conversion left the score at 6-0. Caney Valley responded in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and successful conversion to take an 8-6 lead. The Cougars, however, battled back with a determined drive — despite multiple penalties — capping it off with another touchdown to reclaim the lead at 12-8.
Caney Valley had one final chance to steal the win, but their last drive ended in heartbreak when a fake punt pass was intercepted by the Cougars, sealing the victory. With the win, Oklahoma Union picked up their first triumph of the season, while the Trojans will continue their hunt for their first in the coming weeks.
