Caney Valley (OK) Football Focused on Development

The Caney Valley Trojans are getting set for their first season of non-OSSAA football this fall with just over a month until the season opens.

Caney Valley made the decision in the winter to play an independent schedule for the next two seasons. The Trojans will get to form their own schedule, however they will not be able to qualify for the playoffs.

Through nearly an entire summer of workouts and polishing the product on the field, head coach Derrick Hammer talks about the development of the players.

One positive coming out of Ramona has been the overall numbers. After fielding a team of about 25 players, the Trojans are seeing an increase in football interest. Caney Valley has also seen a big boost in summer workouts this year with over 70 athletes participating in the summer pride program.

Caney Valley has a few weeks left of summer pride before fall practice starts on Aug. 3, an earlier start date than usual. Hammer said it gives the athletes an extra week of preparation.

The Trojans open their season at home for Barnsdall on Aug. 28.
