Bruins Shock Booker T. in Tulsa

Bartlesville High football did something the Bruins had not done in 28 years on Friday night in north Tulsa.

BHS beat Booker T. Washington, 21-10, behind another sterling effort from junior tailback PJ Wallace.

Bartlesville scored 14 unanswered in a two-minute span late in the second quarter to put the game away, after a couple big Wallace runs.

A 73-yard scamper would give Bartlesville its final margin of victory with less than two minutes to play in the second.

Wallace would finish with 231 yards unofficially, putting him just beneath 700 for the season through four games.

Bartlesville forced three turnovers on the night, a forced fumble from Cooper Wood then two interceptions, one from Jett Scully and another from Damien Niko.

The Bruin defensive line - and Wallace - would earn Patriot Auto Group Player of the Game honors.

Bartlesville grabbed the lead for good earlier in the first quarter on the first Wallace touchdown of the night.

Neither team scored in the second half, after both traded long drives mostly on the ground in the third quarter. The Bartlesville defense held inside its own 35 on three separate occasions in the second half.

The win is Bartlesville High’s first over Booker T. since 1995 and third all-time since the schools merged. BHS was 0 for its last 15 against the Hornets. The other two victories came in 1987 and 1988.

Bartlesville got on the board with its first score after head coach Harry Wright rolled the dice. Down 3-0, BHS went for it on fourth and 2 from the Booker T. 5-yard line. A pass from Brett Eaves to Chase Eaves gave BHS its first lead.

BHS is 1-3 overall and 1-0 in District play and next travels to US Grant this coming Friday.
