Bartlesville High football fell in a heartbreaker at home to Ponca City.

A safety and a two-point conversion were the difference and handed Ponca a 24-23 win at Custer Stadium.

BHS battled back from a 9-0 and 16-7 deficit but had too many miscues to overcome. Ponca City scored on a Bruin safety following a fumble on an option pitch. A few plays later Ponca scored again to lead 9-0.

However, Bartlesville kept coming.

Down two scores BHS got another double-pass touchdown from Matthew Sears to Harrison Ketchum.

A run late in the third quarter gave Bartlesville a real chance. Down 16-7 the Bruins hit a home run going for it on 4th and 5 from their own 36 to claw back into the game.

BHS would get the two-point conversion to draw within one. A few plays later Bartlesville took the lead for the first time following a Ponca fumble with less than a minute in the 3rd quarter. A BHS two-point conversion made it 23-16 Bartlesville.

However, the Wildcats would retake the lead on a two-point conversion after another rushing touchdown with 8:30 to play.

Two big Ponca pass plays, the Wildcats only two completions of the night, set up two of their three touchdowns.

The Bruins would fail on a fourth down with about three minutes remaining, which led to Ponca City running out the clock.

Bartlesville drops to 1-7.

BHS next goes to Putnam City West on Halloween.
