Bartlesville Braves Drop Winget Opener

The Bartlesville Braves dropped their first game of the Glen Winget Memorial Tournament Thursday afternoon.
 
The Braves fell to the Hillcrest Merchants, 6-5.
 
Hillcrest put a couple of hits together in the bottom of the first inning to take an initial 1-0 lead. Bartlesville was held in check offensively until the third.
 
Mason Johnston scored on this throwing error in the top of the third to tie the game.
 
Hillcrest responded a half-inning later with three more runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Braves scored a run in the fifth to get back within two, and had their big inning in the top of the sixth. 
 
Ryan Reece scored on this bunt by Cole Martin to erase the deficit in the top of the sixth.
 
The Braves took a 5-4 lead on a Mason Johnston single later in the inning. Bartlesville lost the lead in the bottom of the sixth after an infield single and a wild pitch.
 
The Braves fall to 0-1 in pool play of the tournament and 8-3 overall this summer. Bartlesville is back in action Friday afternoon at 12:15 p.m. for Kickapoo in the second game of pool play.
