The Osage Nation announced in a press release that on Tuesday, June 23, Osage Nation Emergency Management (ONEM) and Atlas Safe Rooms installed two shelters at the Pawhuska Head Start.

Atlas Safe Rooms installs any size shelter for business or residential use and installed the two large safe rooms, 8 foot by 16 foot, at the Pawhuska Head Start.

Representatives from Atlas stated that “tornadoes are most likely to occur during the afternoon hours while many people are still at work.”

It was important to the Osage Nation to install a safe room at the Head Start and the Osage Nation Congress agreed, allocating the $12,000 necessary to funds each unit.

Each of the units is rated to hold up to 64 people and FEMA certified to withstand a EF5 tornado.

The Osage Nation added “These safe rooms will provide most importantly safety to the children and staff. But they will also give peace of mind to the parents/guardians in knowing their child is safe.”
