Following a historic turnaround last year that saw the team break a years-long slump to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2017, Head Coach Rich Giesen notes a marked difference in his players' retention and football IQ. Driven by a unified coaching staff that includes the head basketball and baseball coaches, the athletes have fully bought into a consistent, hard-working mindset. The Lions will field a solid 17-man roster for their 8-man football campaign this fall, providing crucial depth that allows for competitive intra-squad scrimmages and high-quality game preparation.
Looking ahead to their September 4th opener on the road againstGraham-Dustin, the Lions are eager to capitalize on a highly favorable schedule that features seven home games. Coach Giesen plans to expand the playbook this year; while the team remains firmly committed to their foundational run game, fans can expect new offensive sets and a more reliable passing attack. On the other side of the ball, the offseason focus has been on shoring up the secondary to prevent the deep passing plays that cost them close games last season. Anchored by standout athletes like returning All-District senior lineman Alex Rodriguez and emerging sophomore offensive lineman Isaac Cisney, South Coffeeville is heavily equipped to make another strong push toward the postseason.
