OKWU Hoops Splits With Friends

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday night.
 
The Lady Eagles fell to Friends University, 69-61, the men won a thriller, 71-70.
 
In the women's game, OKWU got off to a solid start offensively. The Lady Eagles after allowing the first bucket of the night went on an 11-0 run to take an early nine point lead. The Lady Eagles held off some resistance from the Falcons and took a five point lead into halftime, 34-29.
 
This three-pointer from Gracie Alexander helped out in the first half.
 
Alexander had 18 points in the first half, she finished with 24.
 
The Lady Eagles went cold on offense in the second half. Friends outscored OKWU 40-27 in the final two quarters to escape with the win. 
 
The Lady Eagles drop to 5-11 with the loss and 1-9 in KCAC play.
 
On the men's side, the Eagles played an instant classic against the Falcons. After a goaltending call against the Eagles with seven seconds left put them down by one, OKWU had a chance to win the ballgame on their final possesion.
 
Tamaje Izuagbe got fouled on a dunk attempt with less than a second remaining with a chance to give the Eagles the lead. Here's how the ending sounded on KPGM.
 
Izuagbe led the way with 25 points.
 
After trailing by five at halftime, the Eagles tightened things up defensively. They outscored the Falcons in the final 20 minutes, 34-28. OKWU trailed at halftime, 42-37.
 
In a high scoring first half, Yashi McKenzie made back-to-back three pointers to give OKWU their first lead of the night.
 
McKenzie finished with 15 points. He made three three-pointers in the win.
 
The win puts the Eagles at 14-2 overall and 9-1 in KCAC play. OKWU has won four straight and has sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
 
Both Eagle clubs return on Wednesday for a KCAC doubleheader against Ottawa University. The Lady Eagles will get the evening started at 6 p.m. with the men to follow around 8 p.m.
