Both Bartlesville High basketball teams performed well in the first round of the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational on Thursdsay night, with the Lady Bruins taking care of business and the Bruin guys fell in a close one.

On the girl’s side first, BHS would hold on against a scare taking on Tulsa Rogers. The Lady Bruins finally asserting itself, 61-47.

The Will Rogers girls cut an 18-point lead down to three in the fourth quarter, but Bartlesville would rebound. BHS did not turn the ball over in the final eight minutes and knocked down some shots.

Addison Jones and Sami Shaeffer hit back-to-back three pointers early in the fourth to pull away.

Shaeffer finished with a team-high 15 points. Two games in a row Kenzie Denny has been in double-figures, she had 13.

On the guy’s side, the Bruins put together their best 16 minutes of the season, but Mustang pulled away in the second half. The Broncos topped BHS, 73-54.

Bartlesville railed from down 10 all the way to take the lead several times just before halftime. It was an 11-0 Bruin run that sparked the rally. This shot from Trae Collins gave BHS a two-point lead in the waning minutes of the second.

Hunter Holmes had his best night as a Bruin with a career high 20 points.

The Lady Bruins now move on to face Life Prep Academy on Friday evening at 7:00 in the semifinals of the event. Bruin guys take on Will Rogers at 2:30 in the consolation bracket.
