Huskies Get Nail Biting Wins Against Ripley

Ty Loftis
The Pawhuska Huskies had a double-header with Ripley on Monday night and both games were nail biters to the finish. Pawhuska got the win in both games.
On the guys side, the Huskies fought and clawed their way to a 43-42 win. Pawhuska led by six with 46 seconds remaining when the Warriors were fouled on a made shot, giving Ripley an opportunity at a three point play. The free throw was missed, but they got the offensive rebound and made a three pointer to trim the lead to one. Following two missed free throws from Pawhuska, the game came down to this play.
Pawhuska was tied at 11 at the end of the first quarter and the Huskies took a 26-20 lead into halftime. Pawhuska led by four going into the third quarter. Scoring for Pawhuska was well distributed, as six players scored five points or more. Dax Godsey led the way, finishing with 12 points.
After giving up 18 first quarter points, the Lady Huskies settled in defensively and got a 45-41 win. Pawhuska trailed 18-10 at the end of the first quarter, but used a 20-5 second quarter run to take a seven point lead into halftime.
Offensive rebounding was a key for Pawhuska all night long. A key example of that is right here following a missed shot down low.
Pawhuska led for a vast majority of the second half, but they didn't make it easy on themselves down the stretch. They led by 13 points with just over three minutes left, but were able to hang on and secure the victory.
Brooklyn Miles finished the game with 14 points. Mylee Jenson was also in double figures with 13.
Up next for Pawhuska is a trip to Morrison for the Mike Kerr Classic, a three day tournament starting on Thursday. We will have coverage of those games on 99.1 FM KPGM and audio available at KPGMTV.com.
