Nowata Opens Ty Hewitt Tourney Tuesday

Nowata basketball opens up the first round of the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament on Tuesday evening against Mannford.
 
A season ago, the Ironmen finished sixth in the tournament with a loss to Coffeyville, Kan. in the fifth-place game. Nowata lost to Mannford in the opening round of last year's tournament.
 
Head coach Derick Ott broke down the competition in this year's tournament.
 
Nowata's game against Mannford is paired with Oklahoma Union taking on the defending tournament champion in Fairland. Oologah, Coffeyville, Chelsea and Rejoice Christian round out the bracket.
 
On the girls side, the Lady Ironmen will also open against Mannford on Tuesday. The other matchup on their side of the bracket is Rejoice Christian taking on Fairland. OKU, Oologah, Coffeyville and Chelsea are on the other half of the bracket.
 
Ott talked about some big schools coming back throughout the years.
 
Nowata's run in the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament starts at 5:30 p.m. against Mannford. That game can be heard on 104.9 - KRIG and KRIGTV.com. The Lady Ironmen play Mannford at 4 p.m.
