Nowata Beats Caney Valley (OK) to Open Season

It was an entertaining and high scoring game in Ramona on Tuesday night, as the Nowata Ironmen picked up their first win of the season.
 
Nowata beat the Caney Valley Trojans, 75-66.
 
Caney Valley got off to a hot start offensively with 20 points in the first quarter. A handful came off of half-court turnovers by Nowata. The Trojans stretched the lead as large as 11 in the second quarter.
 
This three-pointer by Preston Gipson in the second quarter helped the cause for Caney Valley.
 
Nowata quickly erased the deficit and matched the Trojans at halftime, 30-30.
 
In the second half, it was all Nowata. The Ironmen lit up the scoreboard for 45 second half points. Offensive rebounding and outside shooting became a factor in the final two quarters.
 
This three-pointer from Talon Thompson put Nowata up 16.
 
With the win, Nowata starts the season 1-0, and 1-0 in conference play. They will be back in action against Oklahoma Union for their home opener on Friday night. That game can be heard on 104.9 - KRIG and KRIGTV.com.
 
Caney Valley falls to 1-1 overall with the loss. The Trojans are also back in action on Friday night on the road against Dewey.
