OKWU Basketball Splits KCAC Opener

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split their first doubleheader in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Tabor College on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles fell to Tabor, 78-46. The Eagles rolled in the men's game, 96-78.
In the first game of the day, the Lady Eagles stayed in the contest early. OKWU led 8-4 early in the first quarter and only trailed by eight after the first quarter, 18-10. This Ashlyn Baker three-pointer put the Lady Eagles in front.
The wheels started to come off in the second quarter. Tabor outscored the Lady Eagles, 29-4, in the second quarter to lead, 47-14, at halftime. The Lady Eagles did outscore Tabor in the second half, 32-31.
The Lady Eagles with the loss drop to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in KCAC action.
On the men's side, three-point shooting from the Eagles was the theme. OKWU was 10-18 from the outside in the first half, exploding for 55 points in the first 20 minutes. The Eagles led the Bluejays at the half, 55-32.
Four Eagles finished in double figures, with all four players making at least two three-pointers in the contest.
Angel Hidalgos led the way from the outside with four three-pointers, including this three-pointer late in the first half to stretch the lead to 22.
Hidalgos finished with 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the outside. Nick Bene led the team in scoring with 16 points.
The Eagles with the win improve to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Both OKWU basketball teams are back in action on Wednesday night for another KCAC doubleheader against Friends University in Wichita, Kan. The women's team will get the evening started at 6 p.m. with the men to follow around 8 p.m.
