The Oklahoma Union Cougars are gearing up for the start of football season this week, with week zero kicking off on Friday night.

Like many schools in our area, OKU is entering 2025 with a new head coach. Bruce Munden, who previously coached at Barnsdall and spent last season in New Cordell, Okla. takes over the program this fall.

OKU played in a scrimmage in Afton last Friday night, giving the Cougars an appetizer of action before kickoff this coming Friday. Fairland and Okemah joined OKU and Afton in Friday's scrimmage.

Munden shared his thoughts on the scrimmage.

Oklahoma Union opens the 2025 season on the road against a talented Colcord bunch. Last season, the Hornets finished 11-2 and made it to the semifinals of the 2A playoffs. Colcord beat the Cougars at OKU to open last season.

Munden talked about approaching Colcord.
