No Football This Season at Wesleyan Christian

Unfortunately, there is one local school that will not play football this fall.

Wesleyan Christian School has made the tough choice to cancel its 2025 season because of low numbers on the team. It was a quick turn when school began, as WCS had nearly twice the number of players it needed over the summer.

However, due to quite a few different factors, there ended up being less than eight interested by the time practice began.

First year WCS Athletic Director Steven Cooks details why the choice was made.

Wesleyan Christian is under the direction of first year head coach Fabian Quiroz, who came on this past spring to take over for former head man Blaine Landers. Landers departed before the end of the past school year, meaning Quiroz was the third Mustang head coach in three seasons.

Cooks says he was impressed with him in the offseason.

Cooks said co-oping was not an option so late in the process, and that to co-op the Mustangs would need a local high school partner that also does not have enough players. This fall that appears no other school locally would fit the bill.

WCS will still have a junior high team this fall and they plan to have a team again in 2026.
