Bruin Football Practice Begins

High school football practice begins on Monday across the state of Oklahoma, as we are less than three weeks from kickoff for most schools throughout the area.
We will have a ton of news over the course of this week, culminating in our high school football preview show on Saturday morning.
At Bartlesville High it is a mix of old and new in 2025. Most of the end-of-season starters in 2024 are back after a youth movement a year ago. The Bruins will be banking on progression from a large now-sophomore class and a litany of new assistant coaches.
The first practice for Bartlesville today is the next step in an already long offseason for BHS. Workouts have been ongoing since last winter but really ramped up starting with spring ball.
Head coach Harry Wright says this is the next step toward kickoff.
After a late coaching change a year ago, Wright served as Bartlesville’s defensive play caller last year. This season, Otis Crane will run Bartlesville’s defense.
Crane is a longtime high school assistant and was Dewey’s defensive coordinator for several years.
Defense became Bartlesville’s biggest asset toward the end of last year. The Bruins held their last five opponents to 26 points or less.
Wright talks about the Bruin defense this fall.
Bartlesville will open its 2025 season at home against Newcastle on Friday, Aug. 29.
Also, Coach Wright will be on hand on Saturday morning for our annual high school football preview show.
Our Coach’s Breakfast Broadcast will air this Saturday morning at 7:00 from Chick-Fil-A in Bartlesville, with interviews from all the area head football coaches. It will be live on KWON and KWONTV.com, with an archived version also available on KWONTV.com immediately after.
