Dewey Football Progressing in Offseason

We are five days away from high school football practice beginning across Northeast Oklahoma. One of the main themes in our area – New head coaches.
There had been remarkable stability in the head coaching ranks across Osage, Washington and Nowata Counties since the pandemic. However, going into 2025 there will be several fresh faces.
Dewey, Caney Valley, Oklahoma Union, Copan, and Wesleyan Christian School will all be breaking in first-year head coaches this fall.
At Dewey, the Bulldoggers had one of the latest coaching changes in the state. New head man Scott Sapulpa was promoted from his assistant’s role to head coach after the departure of former head coach Ryan Richardson in mid-June.
Sapulpa says the offseason has gone well considering the circumstances. He says now that the summer is coming to an end, he is seeing some of the Bulldogger’s work in the weight room paying off.
Dewey will have six assistant coaches this fall, many of them new to the program. Dewey has only won five games over the past three seasons.
Practice starts for the Bulldoggers on Monday. Sapulpa says this week in preparation for practice will be about teaching his team how to watch film for the upcoming season.
Dewey opens its 2025 season and the Scott Sapulpa era of Bulldogger football on Aug. 29 at home against Locust Grove. We will have that game for you on KRIG 104.9 with select games all season on KRIG and KRIGTV.com.
We will have coach Sapulpa on hand in just over a week, along with a lot of the other area head football coaches during our Coaches Breakfast broadcast – Saturday morning Aug. 16 from Chick-Fil-A in Bartlesville.
A 7:00 AM start time on KWON and KWONTV.com.
