We are seven Fridays away from officially kicking off the high school football season in Oklahoma.

For the Caney Valley Trojans, that seventh Friday will be the first under head coach Derrick Hammer.

Under new leadership, Hammer said things are becoming more natural for his players.

The Trojans, like many other programs this time of year, are starting to ramp up intensity to prepare for the start of the season next month.

Aside from growth on the field, Hammer talked about the kind of growth and relationships he's built with the people around him off the field.

Caney Valley opens on the road against Barnsdall on Aug. 29.
