A new City Champion was crowned on Sunday afternoon at Hillcrest Country Club, as the Dinks Pitt BBQ Jim Curd Sr. City Championship wrapped up with another repeat winner.

Congrats to coach Terry Hughes, who won his second city championship with a two-day score of 142. Hughes shot a one-under 71 in each of the days of the tourney and won the event by four strokes. This is Hughes first city title since 1995 and it comes a year after his son Nathan won the tournament for the sixth time.

Hughes talked with KWON post round about his feelings on the win and the keys to the victory.

The next closest golfer was Shawn Barker, who shot a 146 to take second by himself. Meanwhile Landon Curd, Ross Novak, Jay Wasemiller, and Tanner John rounded out the top six of the event – They all tied for third place with a 147.

Wasemiller’s day-two 70 was the lowest round of the tournament. He will be a junior at Bartlesville High this fall.

Hughes, a longtime Bartlesville High golf coach and athletics administrator, says getting on the course with a bunch of current and former Bruins makes the championship even more cool.

As for keeping the trophy in the family, Hughes joked he was glad to have the opportunity to win it with his son Nathan not in the field this summer.

Elsewhere in the city championship, Homer Licktenwalter took first in the senior flight, he had a two-day gross score of 145 with a day-two 71 to win that flight. Terry Trammell was first in the NET score for the seniors.

Kevin Kedy won the 1st Flight with a two-day score of 139, three shots better than Jerome Longacre who finished second.
